On your 1st visit you will be greeted by our friendly staff. Forms will need to be filled out prior to being seen. These forms are necessary for your complete care to be provided. For you convenience you can print and complete the forms ahead of time to shorten your visit time. We make every effort not to overbook patients so you are seen in a timely fashion. However we will add emergencies to the schedule that must be seen promptly, which can sometimes cause mild delays. We know you would appreciate the same service if you ever had an eye problem yourself.
You will be worked up initially by our qualified technician who will take your history, read your current glasses and follow with some preliminary tests. It is important to bring your glasses with you to your visit so we can determine if there has been a change in your prescription. It is also helpful if you can bring your contact boxes or prescription for contacts to determine a change in that area as well. Please let the technician know if you are happy with the current contacts you are wearing or if you are having any difficulty with your current prescription.
Dr. Pennell will then further evaluate your eyes. This includes dilating your eyes which will enlarge your pupils. The dilating drops usually take a couple of hours to wear off. They will make your eyes light sensitive and will also blur your near vision. This process helps Dr. Pennell get a better look at your retina and other vessels in the back of your eye. Although not all eye doctors dilate your eyes, Dr. Pennell feels it is very important to do for the health of your eyes.
